I have a 2000 Jeep Wrangler with a 2.5 4cylinder motor with 135,000 miles. The compression on all cylinders was aroun 90-100 so I had the head rebuilt and the head surfaced. While doing this found the rings were also bad. I then put a new crank kit new pistons and rings, new oil pump, checked cam for size and it was ok, new cam bearings were installed by a reputable machine shop, the manifold was cracked so I replaced that with a new one. When the Jeep gets warm the oil pressure dropped to zero at idle, runs 40-50 psi when at travelling speed, I replaced the oil pump again, that didn't help.

Did you or the machine shop put the crank in.. When you installed the crank did you use plastgauge to make sure the clearances where in spec.. You have to be loosing oil pressure somewhere. Also is the pressure higher cold then hot?. Is this on dummy gauge or actual mechancal gauge?

He asks about a crank and you respond about a cam................... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Lack of lubrication is one of the most common causes of camshaft failure during the initial start-up. If the camshaft and other valve train components are not properly pre-lubricated, they can be damaged within the first few camshaft revolutions. Very clean when building always keep your work area clean and all your components must be cleaned %100. DO NOT let it idle. It is essential to run the engine at 1500-2000 RPM for at least 20 minutes. You will have to disassemble and see what has failed.
