is this normal?

I have a rebuilt 351m(less than 5 miles), a new carb., and new exhaust system in my '79 Bronco. After starting the engine and letting it run for only a half a minute, I've noticed that the headers are extremely hot but nothing else on the motor is even close to being warm. Is this normal? I'm afraid to let it run for any length of time for fear of hurting the rebuild if in fact there is a problem. I don't trust the guy who did the rebuild, and am myself a motor moron. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

It’s normal for the headers to get hot right away; I have the scars on my hands to prove how hot they get. Headers are made out of relatively thin walled tubing and then imagine a flame-thrower blowing inside that pipe. If the engine was running smooth and sounding normal it’s probably fine. Dan.
