instant throttle stall unplug alt fixes Sign In

1988 pontiac grand prix 2.8 V6 Replaced fuel filter to fix a problem of not starting after sitting 10 to 20 minutes.Pouring a quart of water on plenum and throttle body would make it start Also car would stall after warm up under more than half to full throttle like someone hit an off switch would start back up after 5 to 20 seconds .This went on for about three months during this time battery went dead once for no reason.Replaced fuel filter and these problems went away good power no stalling ,start after sitting OK This lasted less than one day Battery went dead removed and charged it.Now car starts up and idles but dies instantly if you give it 1or 2 mm of throttle. This problem goes away if you unplug the alternator at top plug???Then car will rev up almost normally but still sluggish.Tried IAC valve Looked for vacuum leaks Fuel pressure 42 lbs. battery 12.99 volts .Changed Alternator 14.35 volts Any ideas?

You might be cooling off the Ignition Control module with the water.

SORRY ,I think I put in too much info my question is why this car runs better without the alternator. My guess as to why the water helped is the clogged fuel filter robbed just enough pressure to prevent proper vaporization of fuel when hot.

SORRY, I put in too much info but the water never got near the control module. My real question is why this car runs better with no alternator power.

I wouldn't bank on that theory holding water.
