my mazda 2000 mpv hesitates when i accelerate . the van also feels like its chugging but the check engine light isnt on either what coult this be

sounds like a misfire under load sometimes it won't trigger an engine light. Sounds like it could be ignition related. You could take the coil pack off look for any cracks.. usually rusty tracks are sign of cracks. Spray down wires with water look for sparks or see if it starts to miss. pull a plug check condition of it. I attached chart below.
Thats some stuff you could try first. Would be nice to put on a scanner so you know what cylinder(s) is misfiring would be easier to diagnose.
