That is a knock sensor but it doesn't contain or seal out any oil.

OK thanks for the quick response can you possibly tell me why I would have a slow leak on passenger side then? I already changed valve cover gaskets as well as my PVC Amy suggestions?

Yes, it looks like the plastic is broken off yours

I can't tell you what is leaking on your engine. You need to clean it off thoroughly and then determine the origin of the leak.

To help you find the oil leak the best thing for you to do is clean off the engine. Then see where the leaks are coming from. Looks like it needs pressure washing...lol.

Thoughts on this: Isn't oil pressure switch over this area? Check that as it would drip down and can fast sometimes.

* If you have steel (think so) valve covers and didn't straighten them for new gaskets or over tightened them they could be leaking as bad or worse now.

Yes - cleaning the area off and looking up and most forward for it to return would be the best but doing so you could get doused with crap spraying up from under!

Of course you could put the vehicle on its roof but a bit tricky (kidding) to do that.

It look fast enough you'll find it with a good look,

I think you may find out that you are wrong about that. There should be no oil associated with the knock sensor and i can see from the picture that the oil residue was much higher than the sensor itself and oil doesn't flow uphill.

OK - Open again. I can say perhaps just fate that I've never known of a knock sensor to leak oil so don't know if it's exposed to crankcase oily vapor?

Looked hard and can't confirm that. Did find that for a manual trans it's a different part # is about all? Not sure why that would matter either.

Pics large but show oily mess. Near all leaks of the sort will be highest and most forward of evidence,

Knock sensors normally go into a blind hole in the block. I believe being in contact with oil would effect it's operation so they are designed to contact block surface only.

Re: help with part on 93 chevy 1500 truck Sign In

As said - never had or heard of a problem with them so plain dunno? One showed thread sealer on threads new one didn't? Said NOT to use anything that would interfere with it grounding to block was really all.

Worried that this oil leak isn't really fixed so worth paying attention. I still think many times oil leaks from up high like valve cover gaskets are a problem with PCV not able to overcome normal blow-by either clogged or engine wear (is a '93) the root cause.

So yes - keep an eye on this to return, T
