Hi we a re rebuilding a 1953 chevy truck it sat for quite awhile it has been torn down lubricated and almost all ancillary parts replaced( new carb points wires plugs etc.) I think the problem we are experiencing most is aligning the timing we pulled the dist. to refurbish and trying to align the oil pump for reinstall is a problem ......any tricks ??? or do we need to pull the pan again to visually align everything to tdc no markson pulley? so far it wont even burp Thanks for any help CN

The timing pointer is on a hole on the bell housing. Rotate the engine by hand watching for a dot on the flywheel. Align the dot with the pointer. (this needs to be done on the compression stroke). Then, drop the distributor in with the rotor pointing to #1 on the cap. Once you get it running, you can time it with a light to get it exact.
Be sure the points are set correctly, as that will affect timing.

I'm old so I can't remember that it's neccessary.Unsure If this is a fresh engine, you really should prime the oil pump prior to dropping in the distributor. Some had a slot that you could put a large flat blade screwdriver shaft into, then connect to a drill. Not sure how experienced you are, but just be sure that you have it on TDC on the compression stroke.

( plenty of oil pressure with a screwdriver on the drill)

Oil pressure; That's great! We have a 12yr old black Lab, also. The one pic isn't the brightest crayon in the box. She loves snow. Hmmmm?
