hard to start when warm Sign In

I have a 1986 VW Golf that I drive every day to work and back. In the morning or when the car is cold it will start right up no problems however, once it gets warmed up and I shut it off, it's a bear to get started again. If I pull into the post office, run in, when I come back out and try to start it, it just laughs at me. I have to hold the ignition on, give it a gas and sit there waiting with the starter cranking over and over until it finally starts. And at that point it kinda sputters to life. In the morning, at lunch break, and when its quitting time I can go out and it will start up first pull.
The car is a carbureted 1.6 four banger.

sounds like a possable choke problem . remove aircleaner top and see if the butterfly is open when car is warmed up. If not it could be a faulty heater or linkage prob . I would recommend taking to shop unless your savy with carbs.

I agree re-tired, hard starting after a warm-up usually indicates a carb problem, like a needle & seat or other internal problem with the carb. Sounds like it's flooding itself, making a hard start. Tried holding the gas to the floor when it will not restart?
