I GOT A 1996 GMC SAVANA 3500 5.7 LITER WITH 200K

I WAS DRIVING IT FOR ABOUT 3 HOURS ON A HOT 85+ DEGREE DAY AND SHE DIED ON THE WAY HOME

SHE STARTED AGAIN BUT SOMETHING WAS NOT RIGHT AND IT STALLED AGAIN THEN WOULD NOT FIRE AT ALL

ALL GAUGES WERE NORMAL AND WE TOWED IT HOME

I ASSUMED IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP AND TRIED TO START IT THE NEXT DAY AND IT RAN AT IDLE FOR AN HOUR

I FIGURED I WOULD BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT SOME WHERE TO GET IT CHECKED OUT THE DAY AFTER THAT BUT ONCE I BROUGHT THE RPMS UP SHE STARTED BOGGING OUT

I GOT OUT OF THE VAN AND SAW A PUDDLE OF ANTIFREEZE YACK BY THE TAIL PIPE AND I FIGURED O **** MY HEAD GASKET IS BLOWN

AFTER IT RUNS FOR A MINUTE IT STARTS BOGGING AND YOU REV IT AND THE IT DIES 30 SECS AFTER THAT

WHEN YOU OPEN THE RADIATOR CAP THE BACK PRESSURE PUSHES ANTIFREEZE RIGHT OUT

NOW WHEN MOST V8s GOT A BLOWN HEAD GASKET OR CRACKED BLOCK YOU LOSE A CYLINDER BUT YOU MOTOR STILL RUNS

COULD MY TEMP GAUGE NOT HAVE BEEN WORKING AND COULD MY BLOCK HAVE CRACKED IN MORE THAN ONE PLACE? IF IT OVERHEATED KILLING ENOUGH CYLINDERS FOR THE MOTOR TO STALL?

DOES ANTIFREEZE CIRCULATE ABOVE THAT HEAD ANY WHERE THAT IT WOULD POUR INTO MULTIPLE CYLINDERS KILLING THE ENGINE?

If you have antifreeze coming out the tailpipe and the engine is blowing it out of the radiator it would be pretty safe at this point to assume you have some internal problems going on.

Yes with any engine it's possible for coolant to get into the cylinders.....

You could start off with pulling the plugs, looking for any obvious signs, then it you felt the need, follow up with a compression test & leakdown test to assess the damage, but personally with that many miles on it & how bad it is right now I think I would be looking at a complete engine. It would be a shame to put all that time & money into the top end only to have the bottom end fail on you shortly after that.....

Re: gmc savana stalling Sign In

what would happen if someone put water in my gas tank?

Would I be able to drive for 4 hours before the engine blows?

I read on google water in gas will crack the block or heads?

The people in my condo complex have been giving me problems about my work van

If somebody put water in the tank, it would depend how much they put in because the filter can take care of a little but if they put enough in, it would just stop running but there would be no permanent damage. Water doesn't burn so it would just stall the engine until it was all cleaned out.
