engine rebuild Sign In

92 gmc Sonoma 4.3l 4x4

Has bad compression or cylinder isn't firing.
Needs valve job as well.
How difficult is it to preform a rebuild to repair those parts of the engine?

I think I have some family that is willing to help me.
Just curious.

Also is it easier to rebuild a fuel injected tbi as opposed to a carb engine?

Never done a sonoma motor, but a full engine over haul with the right tools and know how will take about 30 hours, about 2g's in parts, and a couple trips to the machine shop. Get a Haynes book on your car if you want to get an idea of what your about to attempt(The book will cost you about 20 bucks). Then pop the hood of your car, look at the motor and imagine taking all that Sh!t apart and putting it back together. If your knees aren't knocking and your not scratching your head after that, then either you do know enough to do it, or your just crazy as hell. Wink

Although I didn't realize it would cost me up to 2g in parts to fix some missing cylinders and valves.

It shouldn't cost you that much but it does require a lot of specialized tools and knowledge. You would be much smarter to buy a remanufactured long block which you can buy for less that that.
