engine problem? Sign In

Hello
Just bought 1999 toyota corolla ce 4 dr sedan.
It is blowing white or bluish smoke on acceleration. It is also using up oil faster than any car should. I did put in "rislone ring seal smoke repair" upon request. It has slowed down the smoking some.
Help!!!

Sounds like you should have had that car checked out before buying it. You have some serious problems now.
I would have the valve cover removed and see if maybe it's sludged inside and the oil returns are plugged up. That's still a serious problem but you might be able to do something about it.

Hi
Thank you for your replyUnsure I was hoping for better news. I have been looking for engines on line. Do you think that would be the smartest thing to do under the circumstances??? I have had a few responces from salvage yards. They have engines under 100k for $600 to $1,600. What is your advise??

Yes, your probably going to end up there. I can't think of a scenario that would be good news.

Hi again
One more thing. This car only has 80k on it. Iam schocked that this problem has arrised in a toyota with low miles. Are you aware of any other toyota's with this problem?? Or could it be that it was not taken care of properly? I just don't get it!!!! I have owned toyota's that ran and ran with few troubles. I have gotten well over 200k on them.

I wouldn't be blaming the car. That's just lack of maintenance causing that. Those Toyotas will sludge right up if the oil isn't changed when it should be.

I agree you are more than likely looking at a internal problem.

You may want to consider getting it checked out at a shop that does engine diagnostics & repair just to confirm the problem....

I doubt you have a malfunctioning PCV system, I would look for that problem more on decel but then again this is online & I can't see the car.

The mileage is low enough I would do a top end repair if things looked good enough with the pan off...
