I have a 88 mustang with a 302 under the hood. it has an aftermarket fuel pump and a Holley 4 barrel. it smells like it is running rich and acts like it might be loading up and flooding itself. it idles at 1 grand and if I rev it up in neutral it is fine, but if it is going down the road it wants to start cutting out around 3 grand. it does it the worst in 2nd gear when I really get on the gas. If I drive it gently, it doesn't seem to be as bad. I've tried turning the distributor to adjust the timing, but nothing seems to help. Any suggestions to try. the motor was just put in recently and has new wires and plugs.

What is your fuel pressure? Most aftermarket pumps need an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to be set by you. If you are running a mild street setup you should get the pressure down to about 6psi. Get a reading of the pressure and post it. Also, did you just get this running as it is set up or did this run well with the same setup before?
