electrical problem

2002 nissan maxima , 3.5 auto . won't start when hot , have changed starter and fan control switch . I've checked all fuses , but doesn't seem to overheat .

Need more information, please. Do you mean it doesn't crank when hot? What exactly do you mean by hot?

hi , the starter just clicks when hot , let it cool down a bit and it starts with no problems . It's a new Bosch starter too .

Did you replace the original starter with this new unit because of the same symptoms?

they both do the same thing , must be a safety feature , replaced the fan control switch , checked the relays with ohm meter , not sure where to go now .

I have a 2002 nissan maxima , when it gets hot all it will do is click the soleniod and won't start . Then when it cools down it will it will start 50 times in row if you keep doing it . I replaced the starter with a new one and it gets hot and does the same thing , you just hear the soleniod click . I watch and time the fans and they seem to not be running very long to cool down the motor , I then changed the tempature control switch . The fans stay on about a 3 min time differents than the old switch , at this point I checked and replaced the relays and this made no different . I drove the car to the store which it got hot again and all it did was click the soleniod , I let it cool down for about a 1/2 hr and it started up and I drove home where it did the same thing again .

If the solenoid is clicking, then the whole circuit is fine. You either have insufficient current to the starter or a bad starter.

I cleaned all the connects to the starter , battery cables at both ends . The starter is only 2 ft from the battery and why would to starter do the same thing , the used one on it and the new one I bought a the automotive store ???

If the starter solenoid is clicking, then all the switching circuitry has done it's job and it just needs current supply from there. Try jumping it right at the starter.

Then it wasn't your solenoid that you heard clicking and you're going to have to troubleshoot the rest of the circuit.
