55 plate ford focus 1.6 tdci sport. 129k miles on clock.

Hi All,

was wondering if anyone could give me some advice as to what could be the cause of my problem. if my car is stationary or stopping regularly at lights etcs, there is a strong smell of diesel fumes in the cabin. This goes if travelling on the motorway or above 40mph (generally).
it has just had an mot and passed... anyone know what this could be?
It is def diesel fumes and not neat diesel.

Have you inspected the exhaust system for exhaust leaks?

no- i had googles it and it said it could be the pipeline return which would be an expensive job? do you know if that was the case would it smell like neat diesel? I am going to take it into a garage but just wanted to go in with an idea of what it possibly could be so not to get stung!
if it is the exhaust, is that quite a simple thing to get fixed?

Have it looked at by a reputable shop. They should give you an estimate for repair once they determine what the culprit is.
