detonation if so why?

hello all new guy w/a question here.
our work truck is an 88 chevy dually w/enclosed utility body , carbed 350 w/AIR system .problem is it just started making a rattling noise from the engine under throttle , more throttle more noise.I'm thinking it is detonation but we use the same gas and keep it tuned up plus it just happened all at once .not sure if it has an ecm or not if so i believe there is a sensor that could be bad if not what else?any help is appreciated !
