just a question. what does the coil do and how can you tell if you have a bad one.1985 gmc 1/2 ton truck 350 cu. in.

A standard test is...........
On this engine the carbon spring loaded "thing" as seen from under cap may be broken??

The Coil on that Vehicle is on top of Distributor cap..A coil is a component that generates spark from a signal that is sent from the pick up coil(inside distributor),, through the ignition module..In My experience of owning chevy trucks,, its good to check ignition module and pick up coil to determine if you are getting a proper signal to the coil... A good shop manual will also assist you in any questions you have in testing of these components... If you dont have access to one then try the library...Smile
