i own a 1993 nissan nx2000 4 cylinder, one of the problems is a tick, it has sat for awhile, just put mystery oil in today, thinking a passageway is gummed. also there seems to be excessive heat coming from the headers...possibly some sort of clog/nest? what else can i do for the tick, and would i have to take apart the exhaust to clear it?

A vacuum test should prove this is an exhaust restriction. If so the cat conv. is the most likely to be the problem and I don't know a way to clean them.

As Dan here has said so well. Converters are killed and generally not routing maintenance. Fix the ticking first and you should make the engine run well before replacing converter if you can or you'll only hurt the new one, T
