Year of vehicle 2001 Make of vehicle ford Model of vehicle escape xlt Engine size 3.0 v6 Mileage/Kilometers over 140,000 My battery died recently and i replaced it with a duralast 40r-dl. about a week later my engine light came on. I took it and had the codes scanned. cylinder 4 was miss firing. I figured the plugs needed to be replaced since i have had the vehicle for 6 years and never replaced them. i put about 90,00 miles on in that time. I replaced the plugs with motorcraft sp-433 plugs. I took it back in to get scanned, and had the engine light reset. the light is still off, but now it idles really odd. sitting at a stop light it will idle normal (around 1,000rpms), and then suddenly drop the rpms and nearly dies. Sometimes it does die while in drive stopped at a light. Every time i put it in park it dies within 60 seconds of stopping and putting it in park. Additionally, when i put it in park and it dies, it turns off my radio. If i have the engine off and i am just sitting in the car with the radio on, if it gets turned up to half way, or i roll up or down the windows the radio cuts off. I have not tried anything to fix it yet. I have no idea where to start. I don't know if all these things are related, and I have no idea where to begin. I have been dealing with this for about a month now, and it just seems to be getting worse. Help please!!

Check around the battery and look for maybe a small wire that should have gone to the battery and didn't. I kinda doubt these things are connected. You may have a bad IAC ( idle air control) but try cleaning the throttle body first. Remove the intake snorkel, have someone hold the throttle wide open for you and scrub the back side of the throttle plate and surrounding bore with an old tooth brush and some carb cleaner. Be sure to spray some into the small holes next to the throttle plate. That should help stabilize the idle. If it still has a problem, replace the IAC. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Have your helper hold the throttle open with the engine not running. Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds
