I have a 2002 Ford crown vic. I am the second owner and have the car for 1yr. It has 61,254 mi. My husband had it today and when he got home he said the car was bucking. What could be wrong and what should we look at first. When I bought this car I was given all maintence records. I sure would like a suggestion. PLEASE.

Is the check engine light coming on at all? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

The "check engine" or "Service Engine Soon" light is an indicator for a system that monitors many electronic functions in the system, also called the "malfunction indicator lamp" (MIL). It can come on for any of hundreds of different causes from any of the systems that the computer monitors. Some are very important and can lead to further component or engine damage and some are emissions related not as serious but still a problem and need to be repaired. Your first step is to have the computer scanned to retrieve the trouble codes that were set when the check engine light came on. Those codes will give you specific information about what the computer saw and will get you pointed in the right direction to find your problem. With a 1996 or newer and some 95 cars and you have an AutoZone or Advanced auto parts in your area, they will read them for free. Once you have these code numbers, we can be a lot more specific about what your problem may be.

OK, this is a coil on plug system that has 8 coils and they are known for bad coils. What I would do is replace the #4 coil and all the plugs. Don't drive it on a vacation this way or you'll be buying a new Catalytic Converter too. #4 is the rear one on the passenger side.

If they knew that, they probably would correct it. For now, you'll be replacing them from time to time. I'm sure heat is a contributing factor because that one hidden in the back is commonly the first to go.
