can i swap heads between different year blocks ? Sign In

I have a 1991 chevy silverado 5.7l 350 tbi v8 with a blown motor. i had a buddy which had an older 80 something 350 sbc that he said would fit so we swapped engines , of course we were wrong. everthing from the intake manifold down fit so we modded the intake to fit.the truck ran for 15 minutes till it got hot then it flooded out. my question is can i swap the older engine's heads (currently in the truck) with the truck's original heads (from the original motor) ? the head gaskets look exactly the same. do you think this would work? if it does should i be able to bolt on the intake with no problem ? i have other back yard mechanic buddies that said it should be no trouble but i'm in need of a more professional opinion, and most mechanics i ask just want to rebuild my motor. please if you can give me any peace of mind i would appreciate it. thank you

What was "blown" on your old motor in which you plan to use the heads from?

a piston had a big chunk missing off the top of it itook the heads off because i thought it was a head gasket.
