basic oil change trouble Sign In

1995 chevy blazer
4.3L vortec engine
75,000 miles

Ok so I got this truck from my Dad's friend for $1,500. i had to drive it home and noticed a few problems. There was a lot of black smoke coming out the exhust and it would idle rough. I also noticed that there was gasoline in the oil so I knew that it was something to do with the fuel spider. I ended up changing the bad part and went to go change the oil. Low and behold I found a few small metallic shavings on the magnetic pickup. I'm wondering if there is a major problem that is happening that I can see. If so, is there anything that I can do to eliminate the problem. thanks

Mike

You mean the OE magnetic tip of drain plug had some evidence/filings? A couple might not matter and it's not there to totally prevent issues.

Gas in even small amounts in oil really thing it out and impair its lubrication ability along with making oil level too full sometimes in which case that can be really damaging.

If it's all fixed now, quiet with good oil pressure (new oil and filiter) then just carry on watching levels and for more troubles for now. It might be fine and you caught it in time - hard to say but it something mechanically really went wrong you would know it soon,

Thanks! I was worried that I would have to do an over haul. I'll keep my eye on things Tongue
