ok I have a 96 crown Vic 4.6 90.000 miles. check engine lite on scanned tells me bank 1 and bank 2 running lean. with in the past year new front exhaust pipes with converters and all 02 censers have been replaced. as well, at times more when it's cold out when started I get a whistle. when it's warm out still whistles but goes away once it's up to operating temp any one have any ideas .

You've got a vacuum leak somewhere that needs to be found. Look closely at the PCV tubes and all the large vacuum connectors. They tend to suck a hole when running which is hard to spot with the engine off. Try to follow the hissing sound to it's source.

yes I have checked all the vacuum line and hoses. any thing above 60 degrees I get no whistle. and when it is present it's just so hard to tell where it's coming from. fairly loud seems louder from under the car not raised up. was told converters could have a faulty pinch weld, and explains why it tends to go away when fully warmed up. have to wait till it starts to whistle again to check seams. more concerned about it running lean and the check engine light on

Dirty MAF will cause lean codes to pop up on those too.
