So my car broke down on the Las Vegas strip.
I have a 98 volkswagen passat 1.8T
The timing belt broke.
What can I expect on this? Not going to the dealership. Hopefully the mobile mechanic will give me a decent quote and fix it tonight. You can get anything you want 24 hours a day in Vegas, but sometimes you have to pay a lot more. I wont be doing that but he will be here with the car within the hour and i need to know if i want him to fix it or not.

Please Help!!!!

also, i heard if the timing belt is being done, do the h2o pump as well. true?
is there anything else he should be doing along with replacing the belt?

If you broke the timing belt than what the heck do the water pump too while at it. The timing belt was YOUR fault for waiting too long or maybe bad luck.

Go put a buck in a one arm bandit for me at the Golden Nugget while you are waiting for the fix, Smile T

I don't know the cost of the parts for that specific car but a shop will charge you the retail price which may be 40% more than the cost and it's mostly labor.

Depending on where you are and labor rates I would venture a guess of $400 or maybe less, T
