When you are breaking in a rebuilt engine, you need to vary your speed and avoid driving over 60mph for the first 1500 miles or so. Do not completely baby it, as you do need to build up some pressures inside it to get the rings to seat, but do not rev the engine high or accelerate at full throttle in a low gear. You should change your oil at the first 500 miles and again at 1500 miles to remove the metals that end up in there from initial break-in. A few things that are also important to do are to keep an eye on your fluids. It is common for an engine to use some oil when new because the rings are not fully seated. Monitor your oil level and keep it full. Make sure your temp gauge works too and don't ignore it. If something goes wrong and you get it hot you will wreck it. If you wish to use synthetic oil, do not do so until you have put 10,000 miles on this first. After that you may go ahead. If you break this in properly and do the right maintenance, you should get you money's worth out of your new engine.
