rebuilt Chev V8 no top oiling Sign In

1967 Camaro 350 V8, newly rebuilt, 30 over NAPA rebuild kit, NAPA machine shop, assembly lube, hydraulic lifters pre filled. Engine has set un started for 1 1/2 years in the vehicle. Attempted to prelube the engine by turning the oil pump with an adapter on an electric drill (30 wt Rotella) guage shows good oil pressure HOWEVER the right bank of rocker arms are not oiling? The left side was very slow but finally oiled. Removed plugs and turned the engine over after putting the distributor back in, again the oil pressure came up but no oil on right rockers. Took the galley plug out of front of engine above timing gear, good oil flow there. Dare I start this thing up and run it?? I have not put the front sheet metal back on the car as I wanted to be sure the engine was OK before I did that. I am stymied on how to proceed? HELP ..... hipirn

If the rocker is the only thing not getting oil, then I would give starting it a try. You can manually throw a little oil on the rockers if your concerned. You may have to back off the rockers considerably with the engine running to get the lifters to pump up.

Thanks hammer! After thinking about it earlier in the day I went ahead and started it up. It caught on the 2nd turn, I adjusted the timing a smige then run it for 20 min. at about 2000 rpm. It ran a bit rough until I discovered a vacuum line off. Had a slight fuel leak and a small water leak but am pleased. It hasn't run for 30 years or so and everything looks and sounds OK... Thanks again.... hipirn
