When I turn the key I just get "click". Same thing happened 2 weeks ago so I replaced the battery. Ran fine til now.
Is it the starter solenoid or the starter? Where is a good starting point? and how do I find out which one it is.
No dash lights stay on when in the on position.

This is very consistant with a poor battery cable and or connection. Clean at battery and at the other ends of the same cables.

It could be other things but this is basic if it's more. A bad connection like I'm suspecting would can give you just one click and then no power for a while for anything else - up to items with memory like a clock might reset.

Note: When cleaning up cables ends safest to remove neg bat cable at battery first and you can work on all others and put that one on cleaned up also LAST.

It helps to get a "memory" saver - simple ones just use a houshold 9v battery powered into a power port/cig lighter but with just that trickle don't open doors and disable any underhood light while cleaning up other wires. That is to save whatever is stored in car's computer and other setting for devices you may have and saves a lot of headaches,

Thanks, Connections & cable were cleaned when new battery installed. Motor started eventually but I ended up replacing the starter and can definetly tell a difference. There was a dead spot in the old solenoid that would catch once in a while. Always at the wrong time.
