2.2l chevy DIS trouble

I am not getting power to the ignition coil. The fuse tests ok. Does someone have the wiring diagram for the '96 Chevy S-10 with the 2.2L 4 banger? This problem is intermittent and is driving me crazy. Thanks

There are 2 coils mounted on top of the DIS module. The module transfers the power to the coil and makes/breaks the ground. First, I would start by putting a noid light in one of the injector connectors, a spark tester in one of the plug wires, and a fuel pressure guage on the test port. Next, crank the engine. If your fuel pressure is around 35psi and the noid light flashes, but there is no spark suspect a module or a coil. You have to repeat this test on both coils to diagnose a module. If you have good fuel pressure but have no spark AND no injector pulse, suspect a crank position sensor.

Good post Steve. Like you said the coils are internally feed power via the ignition module. The module is feed from the ECM/IGN 20amp-fuse position 10 of the instrument panel fuse box. It’s the pink wire at the module that should have source voltage to it; that's anytime that the ignition switch is in the start or run position. Dan. Canadian "EH"

Thanks guys. I appreciate the help. I believe we isolated the trouble into the ignition switch. The lights(dummy) in the dash do not come on at times when the key is on and that is when the truck won't fire. If I play with the key switch back and forth enough it will eventually activate the lights and the truck will start. Would you agree with my diagnosis and Is the ignition switch hard to fix. Thanks again, Jeff

If you have a split steering column it isn't too bad. If it's a one piece column, then you will have to pull the steering wheel. If you aren't familiar with air bags and the danger of deployment while working on them, I'd say this one's better left to the pros.
