I have a 2002 Nissan Xterra Se 6 cylinder, 3.3 liter. So about 9 months ago the fuel pump went out and i had it replaced. About 2 months ago the engine starts running very rough. The check engine light came on and so i took it in. They said cylinder 6 was misfiring. They did a full tune up. Didn't help. Then they ran a fuel system cleaner through and the problem stopped. Until i took it to the gas station and filled it completely up, it started running very rough. Until it got under half a tank of gas. I only put premium gas in it. It does have 107k miles on it. Any advice would be great. I am switching out the fuel filter today to see if that will help.

Since the injection cleaning took care of the misfire, I'll assume it was a dirty/plugged injector. Very common. As far as it running rough only after filling with fuel, and this is just a wild guess.....When fuel trucks 'dump' fuel at a gas station, it stirs up the sediment and/or water that is in the underground tanks. If you buy gas right after they've dumped, you may get the resulting mix into your tank. Since water is heavier than gasoline, it may take a while for it to settle to the bottom of your tank. It's good that you are replacing the filter. If this is what's happened, you may be looking at replacing the filter a couple of times in the near future. You may even want to add some gas drier to the tank. In my opinion, NAPA has the best drier, called Thermo-Aid. It's about a buck a bottle. With a full 20 gal. tank, I'd add two bottles. Can't hurt.

So I switched out my fuel filter put a couple bottles of Thermo-aid gas drier in it. Then ran some BG 44k through the fuel system and it fixed the problem! Whoo-hoo.

Denz; That's great news! That 44K is good stuff. You may even want to add another bottle of Thermo-Aid with the next couple of tanks of fuel, just to be sure you've got all of it. Thanks so much for the update. Have a great week.
