On my 1998 Ford Taurus se station wagon with 129000 miles and a misfiring no. 1 cylinder my RPM gauge reads about 750 at warm idle (about 1100 at start up cold idle) and about a tad over 2000 when driving around town at between 45-50 mph. Are those the correct RPM's for those levels? If not what should they be?

Ya that seems about right. 2000 may be a bit high but not bad. Fix the miss fire and all should be well.

The misfire is basically unfixable at a reasonable price. I only paid $450 for the car and they are telling me it will be over $1000 to try and fix it and then there is no guarentee. I have low compression a burnt exhaust valve and such. I plan on just driving the car till it dies or the cat converter clogs up. Just wondered if the RPM's were where they should be.
