Hello, I have a 2002 Pontiac grand Am. I bought it used about 2 years ago with a little over 50000 miles on it. It worked fine for about a year until the warranty went up of course. Then all of a sudden the low coolant light came on. I made an appointment to have it looked at but before I was even able to get it there my temperature gage went all the way into the red area. I was luckily right near a mechanic shop and I took it right there. They looked at it and told me that I needed a new intake manifold gasket and this happened a lot with GM cars. I had that replaced and not even a month later my low coolant light came on. I had a friend look at it and he saw a ton of junk in my coolant and we flushed it right away and refilled it. It seemed to help for a while but every now and then my light would come back on. I took it back to the shop and they said that I would probably need another intake manifold gasket which would be another 1000 bucks. Well the other day while i was driving, all of a sudden a really loud knocking or clicking sound started coming from my engine. my car slowed down and lost a lot of power and it got louder when i pressed on the gas. I pulled into the same mechanic shop and the guy opened my hood and said it sounded like i had a bent rod. He said this would cost with all the repairs well over 1000 dollars and if i need a lot of other repairs it could be over 2000. And after reading about all the problems that other grand am owners have i wouldnt be suprised if i needed a whole new engine! The problem is, I am upside down in my loan. I still owe almst 8 grand and my car is MAYBE 5000. I have NO clue of what to do, or what my best option would be. I am not sure if I should have it fixed, or trade it in. Could anyone PLEASE give me some advice???? I would appreciate it so much. I am so upset about this, I just bought a house that I am renovating now, and I work two jobs and am having a really hard time with this! Alicia

If you choose to drive a car with a temp or oil warning on you do risk incredible damage or demise. The prices you mentioned seem high. But if you smoked it enough there will be problems later because of it. Those RED warning lights mean NOW -- not later. A tow is cheaper than an engine, T
