We ~think~ the valve job went wrong Sign In

The lady owns a late model Honda and she went ahead and got a valve job.

Skip to today and the car just stalled out.
The day she brought the car home (2 days ago), the car was no longer shaking, though it was vibrating a little, and that was good. She was concerned about the slight increase on the temperature reading. A few hours ago, the temperature gauge went to the top and we decided that it is best to not drive it anymore. There is no steam coming out of the car.

Is this a symptom of a bad valve job?
What should I say and ask the mechanic?

Ask YOURSELF ,did I check the coolant level ,did I check to see is the eng fans where operating correctly . why did I allow a car with a cooling problem get driven . You can ask the mechanic how much it will fix it this time.

Everything has been checked. Assume that I would be able to do most of this stuff alone. I am not sure what could go wrong because of an erroneous valve job since that is beyond my scope.

Thank you.

How long and how many miles ago was the valve job done ? Did a professional shop do it or was it shadetree. Was there a written warranty ? The fact that it was run until max temp will make fixing blame very difficult. Most common faults from an improper valve job are valve guides to loose or to tight .Improper cutting of the valve seats , water or oil leaks . I would eliminate coolant leaks because I assume you checked coolant level on a regular basis and it was full and coolant fans where operating. What exzackly is your definition of an erroneous valve job. I would like to help you but I need the whole story.
