Volvo oil light on @ idle Sign In

I have a 1999 Volvo S80 2.9. When I come to a stop, the engine idles fine but the oil light come on and a warning "No oil pressure, stop engine." As soon as I press the gas, the light goes off. The engine has plenty of oil and makes no strange noises. Thje car runs and sounds fine, just the oil light mystery. The engine has 115,231 miles on it. Any suggestions where to begin?

1st thing is if you've just had the oil changed and this problem started, get it changed again and make to use the correct weight & use a good brand....

If not then you want to get the pressure checked. It could be an electrical problem as simple as a bad sending unit but if you are actually losing pressure @ idle you could do serious damage to the engine. What you say is true, normally you can "hear" when the pressure is low but personally, I wouldn't want to gamble my engine on it.....

Whether the info is true or faulty I'm happy somebody makes a warning to stop the engine! So many keep going and blow the engine!

Oil naturally doesn't have the RPMs at idle so a dip in oil pressure is normal but not so much as to go below set norms. Gotta get on this, check oil and change it out anyway for known good proper oil for the car and double check proper amount. As Sidom said - you are gambling with your engine which could exceed value of the car to fix/replace!
