Unusual Problem-need help Sign In

I have a 1985 chevy celebrity 2 door, 2.8 v6
it has about 200,000 miles.
It has spark
it has fuel
for all intents and purposes it should run
the spark plugs and wires are new, the coil and distributor are good, the battery is good, we just put a new timing chain on and water pump, the starter is new, and yet the car tries to start but won't. Any ideas????
The alternator is good too. We have checked everything, seems like there is a ghost in our car. When the trouble first started, we sat at a stop light, put on the windshield wipers and the car simply died.......ahhhhhhhhh

Is this a carbureted, throttle body injected or multi port injected engine? Depending on where the car was built or designated for sale; it could be anyone of the three. All three will have different things to look for.

I agree there are two eninges here, one is throttle bodyy injected and the other is a 2bbl carb, if it is throttle body injected using a flash light look at the injector do you see it spraying into the throttle body?? Can you spray carb clean or starting fluid into throttle body and have the car start?
If it is throttle body and you see no spray remove the wire connector and using a noid light or test light look for pulse when cranking, if using a test light go across the two connectors otherwise hooked to ground on one connector will show constant power then you would have to hook to positive battery power to see pulsed gorund on the other terminal.
Let us know more details.
