Toyota tacoma 2010 v6 knock sensor

I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas on my issue. For my job my truck sits sometimes for weeks at a time without being driven. At my last job when I went to leave I could hear the engine not running excellent and the check engine light was on. When I got home I took it to a generic repair shop, they did a diagnostic on the light and received a remove or repair knock sensor ($2,315). I put sea foam additive in a tank of 87 octane and I plan on doing this with premium octane on my next fill ups. Any other ideas? Thank you

Big misconception. There are no scan tools or code readers that will tell you to remove and replace a part to fix a problem. Scan tools are just that, tools. Tools don't tell you what is wrong, but assist you in performing a function or help guide you, if you know how to use it, in troubleshooting. I hate when someone tells me, "All you have to do is plug in your scan tool and it will tell you what is wrong." or "Why do I pay you so much money to figure out what is wrong when the scan tool tells you what is wrong?" That is BS. What trouble code(s) numbers do you have? Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Don't bet on that Nick. Depending on whether it has "X runner" or not the flat rate time ranges between 15.4 and 24 hours. to change both. PS, and the sensor is almost $200 and it has 2 of them. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

If you do both on an x runner its 24 hrs labor. Each OEM sensor is around $200 each. Hope their magical scan tool is telling the truth. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

I think I would drill a couple of holes in the side of the block and screw some sensors in. Then reroute the wiring...LOL Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Wow. Just looked this up. Have to pull heads to get to them.... Looks like its common for mice and what not to chew up the wires at the connector. Crazy stuff, and I thought knock sensors on gm 6.0 were bad enough. Edit: It looked like online few people got this covered by their insurance. Not sure how, but maybe worth looking into? ____________________________________________________ Willing to help, willing to learn... Rob

That's all they did was pull the error code. Just called them to confirm and they were getting a code P0333, Knock sensor 1 low input, they said they would have to remove timing chain and half the engine thanks for your help, Drew - See more

It could be the sensor, wiring, or the computer itself. Hopefully they are right in their diagnosis, but the odds are low if they are going just on a DTC description. That code states the computer is detecting low voltage for knock sensor bank 1. Looking at the wiring diagram it appears the computer sends a bias voltage of around 5 volts to the sensor. There is an internal resistor in parallel with the piezo crystal that I am assuming is used to verify circuit integrity. You can use that 5 volt bias to troubleshoot that circuit. An oscilloscope can also be used to find if the bias is there and to see the knock sensor signal when it detects knock in a certain frequency range. It's just important as heck to be as accurate in your diagnosis as you can, so you are not replacing or repairing something that isn't actually the problem. That would be a very expensive mistake. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
