Toyota mobility van sludge problem Sign In

Hello -

Has anybody had any issues with the 07 Toyota Sienna having sludge problems? I own a Sienna mobility van manufactured by the Braun company that has been noticeably smoking. I took it to the dealership and they said that the van has sludge that would cost $2,800 to correct. I have been fighting them ever since because this should not happen to a van that is 3 years old. My dealership,no live links, has been selling these vans but I want to know whether Toyota has an issue that people need to know about?

Toyota has had sludge problems in many of their engines for many years. They blame owner neglect but they have more problems than other makes.

Is there anything I can do to get it covered under warranty?

You can ask but I doubt it. as I said, they tend blame it on owner neglect when it comes to oil change intervals.

Has anybody challenged them on it? I am going to take it to higher ranks and see what happens. I will let you know.

I'm sure thousands have tried. I don't know if any were successful though. People challenge dealers constantly but rarely have much success beyond the district level. I would at least try that.

Re: Toyota mobility van sludge problem Sign In

It's good that you are willing to take the time and effort to call them out on this.

I've just breezed thru this thread so if it's already been mentioned I apologize.
To get anywhere you are going to have to have timely maintenance records. Any skipped or overdue oil changes and you'll be dead in the water. If you have records showing all the oils changes were done at the 3k or 5k mark(I would have to check the schedule to be sure on which one) you would have a very good case.

If you are the 2nd owner then you would also need the prior service records because this could as be a contributing factor as well(buying someone else's neglect)

Good luck to you on what ever you decided to do, and let us know how it goes....

I'll just mention that you will also need the cooling system maintenance as well because a cooling system can contribute to sludging problems. Your best ammo would be complete & timely service records......for everything...
