Toyota Rav4 Idling Very Low in Park/Nuetral

I have a 2006 Toyota RAV4 with 69,000 miles and it's a 4 cylinder engine. I disconnected the battery to clean the terminals, reconnected and now the car is idling very, very low (about 500 rpms) when in park or nuetral and when sitting still in Drive with the brake on, the car is almost stalling out. It was idling perfectly fine until I disconnected the battery. I disconnected and reconnected again, but it continues to idle really low/rough. Thoughts?

High chance guess: You've reset the computer and it needs time to "re-learn" and usually will with so many starts or a good run of random driving. Use "memory savers" when disconnecting battery prevents that, T _________________________________________ Long retired now

Thanks. I'll run it for a few days and see if it resets.

I should have said the first time that it would go back to normal and I don't know of a way to speed up the process except just drive it. If you feel unsafe or it's relentlessly stalling that would be different. It should be fine and self correct. Know this - in states where you get OBDII inspection stickers they'll fail you till it "re-learns" which is just monitoring patterns of too much IMO and watching, setting things for where the vehicle is. It will quit it soon, T _________________________________________ Long retired now

Another thing you can try if it doesn't clear up is to disconnect it again and start over. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
