If the cam and crank gears are not correct the valves will be opening at the wrong time and the compression will be all goofed up. Also what was the reason for the head change? Since you were running prior to the lock up then I would go after the compression first. Checking the compression would be easier than pulling the timing cover and all the related junk of to check it. Also another thought. Dosn't this have the distributor that goes in sideways? Is it in correct or 180 off?
