TRUCK FLOODING REAL BAD	Sign In

HI I HAVE A 1998 DODGE DAKOTA SPORT 4X4 3.9 LITER ENGINE, I JUST GAVE IT A COMPLETE TUNE-UP AND CHANGED THE AIR FILTER OUT. IT WAS DOING GOOD ON GAS FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS, BUT NOW IT IS DRINKING IT TO NO END. COULD IT POSSINLY BE MY 02 SENSOR, IT IS ALSO BLOWING OUT BLACK OUT THE TAILPIPE. NEED TO FIND OUT WHAT IT COULD BE DON'T HAVE MUCH MONEY. THANKS

Any codes if so list them all here, that will help in diaging your problem. Also since you just changed the air filter I would check the MAF(Mass Air Flow) sensor and see if there is any dirt stuck in the element. If there is get some break clean and spray the element till the dirt is gone. Do not touch it with your fingers or with objects.

The best approach would to be to use a scan tool to analyze all the sensor data to look for a problem.

You can also pull some plugs. See which ones are running rich. You can tell because they will be carbon sooted.

If they are all black, unplug the O2 sensor before the catalytic converter. Drive it and see if your black smoke goes away and your plugs start to clear up. If it clears up, you have an o2 that is stuck lean. If it doesn't clear up, you'll have to check fuel pressure and MAP sensor voltage.

This will set a trouble code, so it would be a good idea to retrieve any trouble codes that are stored before unplugging anything.
