Suzuki Forenza issues

2007 Suzuki Forenza 2.0, 140k miles. This is my brother in laws vehicle and I'm our family "mechanic". He called me today with this issue, I'm at the car now trying to diagnose it. Vehicle suddenly shut off after running perfectly earlier that day, now it won't start back. I tried jumping it (being hopeful) to no avail. Has a sluggish sounding starter, full power to electronics and no dead battery symptoms (I.e. clock reset). Had the battery tested to be sure, it is in perfect working order. I was thinking alternator, but he had zero electrical issues prior to it shutting down. Help.

At a glance your jump failed to really power the thing. A battery so low a clock resets (it didn't you said) is 100% disconnected or dead no marginal. Starter takes the heavy load of anything in a vehicle. Slow or sluggish first make sure cables and connections at both ends are clean and snug and if that alone isn't the problem on to find out if there's excessive voltage drop while trying to crank the engine and where it drops out or possibly the engine is so tight from some issue starter can't turn it? BTW - Alternator alone isn't needed at all to crank an engine so you are barking up the wrong tree there. Quit testing it before you blow the thing, T
