Start issue in a Hyundai Sonata 2013 Sign In

Hi all,

First of all my English is not perfect, so I apologise if my writing is fumbling here and there.

Two days ago I was out shopping. When I decided to go back home, I started my car but the starter cranked about 2 seconds longer than usual before the car started. At the same time the check engine light turned on. Since then, it takes about 2 to 3 seconds for the starter to start the car. The starter motor is fine because it cranks like normal. I showed this to a mechanic and upon checking the error he said that it might be the fuel sensor or the fuel regulator or the fuel pump, but he wasn't sure. He said if it is any of these, I'm looking at upwards of $1500 in expenses. He cleared the check engine light but it came right back on.
The car is at 150000km now but the engine was recalled a few years back and a new engine was installed. So the engine is at about 20000-30000km.

Please let me know what you guys think.

We need to know what the exact code number was.

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately I don't have the code. The engine is a 2.4-litre 4-cylinder in-line GDI.

Then you need to have the codes read again and post the number here. Many parts stores will do it for free. Just don't let them sell you any parts just yet.

Sarah if also a name? Know with such low miles/kilometers it just might be part normal for exactly where you are. Fuels are altered for Winter to be more volatile (evaporated more quickly) does have a different behavior.
Off the wall as I am: Count the real seconds 3 seconds is a long time IMO for this or any car unless unused for a long time. What may matter is how fast the engine cranks? It would be slower normally if colder. If holding key or button (IDK on this model for you) for a moment without starting it but in "run" mode fuel pressure builds up. It's important info again IDK may need to do that depending on extremes for this car maybe not some other?
Just thoughts a code could help might be normal rather a maybe again you are flooding it and it noticed??

Thank you for your response. I will have to wait till the start of the new year to do that.

Thank you Tom. The starter engine cranks fast, like usual. I think it has to do with pressure build up. I have to show it to another mechanic to see what the code was.

Re: Start issue in a Hyundai Sonata 2013 Sign In

OK you are waiting till after New Year's for a code is fine, understood.
Try holding key in just "Run" position now. Turn to where it pumps up pressure, turns of dash lights but not cranking the engine for a few seconds. Now turn to the start it may start right up fast or faster.
If so that's good info. If that did nothing to help also info.
I'm also mind reading that you are playing with the gas pedal (throttle pedal) shouldn't ever need to do that with this or you are causing this.
You said English was second to you and spoke of kilometers (not US) the site mostly is may limit specific details IDK we'll see what results you get and apparently can still use it so wait for the holidays to be over - fine,

Tom
