Stalling Question

I have a 1996 Mazda 626 4 cylinder 5 speed manual trans. Recently since getting colder I am having problems. When I go to stop my car dies, It doesnt happen all the time but alot and also when its cold out its very hard to start. Could this have something to do with the idle control switch? I have changed all spark plugs and such and fuel system is fine.

A couple of quick things you can do that may or may not help. 1st get the codes pulled to see if there is anything in memory....
Get the battery tested to make sure all is good there & the connections are clean & tight.
Then check down the throat of the throttle body, if it's dirty, get some throttle body cleaner & little brush, open the throttle by hand & clean it real good. Just don't spray too much cleaner down there without starting it once & while. liquid doesn't compress. After the initial cleaning, you can run it and spray down the throat, while feathering the throttle. It may set a code but this can be cleared..

I've seen guys use that and it will work, but throttle body cleaner is less harsh & works just as good for this purpose.
Some throttle bodys have a plastic coating in them (Fords mainly) that carb cleaner will remove but throttle body cleaner won't.

Just make sure that it is Oxygen sensor 'safe'. Should say on the can. If it doesn't say that, specifically, don't use it.

Sidom is 100% correct on this. I had forgotten the teflon coating. Good catch, Sidom. We generally use the MotorVac chemical for this, but comes in quart containers, too much and too expensive for the DIYer.
