My engine (97 Cutlass supreame) is making a high pitch sound when it's running. It sounds like a belt or something like that. Like a speeking sound. Is there anything I can do? Is belt lubricant safe? Thanks, Bobbie

Check that the belt is tight enough. Sometimes the tensioner is weak or at its limit. You can use just WD-40 as a test for the belt making the noise. I don't care for the products sold as belt dressing as the ones I know of are just sticky stuff and have just made belts noisier. Perhaps in a jam to make it work to get to home or repair place. I use silicone grease on the belt to keep them in condition and quiet. If belt is no good of course it should be replaced anyway and look for the ones that claim to be quiet as so far they have been for me for cars that have chronic belt noise problems. If the WD-40 test doesn't make any change, take the belt off and spin the pulleys and see if one is bad. Good to catch that ahead of time, T
