Sporadic Idle Sign In

I have a 1990 Acura Integra RS that I recently had a fuel injector service done on. Now the car suffers from a sporadic idle when it warms up. The car will idle at 1k the rev to approx 2k then drop back to 1k and it does this continuously for about 5 minutes then settles down to 1k. A couple minutes later the process repeats itself. The car currently has 178k miles on it. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Re: Sporadic Idle Sign In

Two questions:

1) Did the idle do this before the fuel injection service?
2) What exactly did they do to the fuel injection?

No it did not do this before the treatment. I went to Grease Monkey where I believe they ran a cleaner through it.

Re: Sporadic Idle Sign In

What was the initial reason you wanted this service done?

Just doing routine maintenance. I had somebody tell me that it is not unusual for the cars computer to have to relearn the idle after this service. Something that could take up to 30 days. Any thoughts on this?

Re: Sporadic Idle Sign In

30 days sounds a bit extreme, but if the idle seems to be getting better everytime you drive, then see if it clears up completely. Usually a computer will relearn in just a couple of drive cycles.

I have also heard doing the following would help

1. Let the car sit and idle for 20 minutes
2. Disconnect the battery to reset the computer

Any thoughts on this?

Re: Sporadic Idle Sign In

For most cars that would reset the computer and need to relearn some things but usually fairly fast. A month is too long as Steve said, T

PS: Should only take a minite not 20 if you want to try that

If you disconnect the battery then your computer will have to relearn all over again. Is the idle clearing up the more you drive or is it still erratic?

Re: Sporadic Idle Sign In

It is clearing up as I drive so I think the best thing to do is give it time. Thanks for all the help!

I agree. See how it is in a few days.
