Spark plug Coils dying one at a time in 2 months Sign In

Does anyone know why within 2 months all 4 of my cylinder coils would need replacement one at a time only on the drivers side of my 2002 F-150 4.6L?
I thought it was weird enough that it was happening so fast after realizing the truck is 10 years old in 10 days and has 142,000 I though it was just a fluke. After putting the code reader on it just now I saw all bad coils in the last 2 months are on the drivers side? 6,8,5, now 7. I suppose it can be a fluke but if it sounds familiar to anyone please let me know what you think?

I hope that is not the order they are wired in . Its 5,6,7,8 on that side . Are the plug cavities getting moisture in them ? Are wires chafing , pulled tight? Could be fate , roll of the dice.

Why are you convinced that coils are the actual root of the problem? The coil is the reserve power so replacing it will always increase the available voltage but it could easily be a plug issue, moisture getting to the coil or supply voltage problem.

I can tell you one thing from past experience. If you are running Bosch plugs, you may never get rid of the misfire problems in that particular engine until you replace them with Autolite.

Come to think of it I did see a half inch of water in the last plug cavity I replaced I will see tomorrow if there is moisture in the #7 that coded today. I also went to my notes and see that it was only 2 in the last two months and one today. I did have 4 altogether and all on the drivers side but the first one I logged in my book 2 years ago, so not quite a weird as I thought.

You probably have a coolant leak on top of the manifold somewhere.

Yeah I pulled the 2 coils out and replaced them and it cleared up the problem and never (so far) coded the same cylinder#. I did with both coils ohm out the primary and secondary and with both I saw no real difference on the resistances. Tomorrow I willl pull the coded #7 coil check for moisture, clean and dry if wet and either wet or dry I am going to put in my last used replacement coil to see what happens. Moisture might be my whole problem then I'll go from there. I see the water level is normal but it does look to be a little more rusty for some reason on the drivers side.

Are you sure the coils are going bad, or are the plug boots shorting out? We replace the plug boots before a coil as they are the most likely spot to fail. The boots will burn through the side or crack on the bottoms and allow the spark to go to the head. Check them first. They are about 10$ each instead of the price of thge coil.
