Spark Plug coil and check engine light

Hello. I have a 2001 Volvo Cross Country. One of the spark plug coils went out. The check engine light was going on and off when I would drive it. It would go off when the car was stopped. I replaced the coil this morning and the car seems to be running fine but now the check engine light is on constant. It is no longer blinking. Does the car computer just need to be reset or do you think something else is wrong with the car? I would have thought that because the check engine light was going on and off that it would now be off. Thanks

logic would suggest you ASK the vehicle computer, SCAN for codes - post ALL codes someone will advise. An on and off light may have indicated an intermittent - but what code, what prompted the coil change? Could it have been a P035x ? let us know

OP has to clear that up Kev2. I took that as being driven with CEL blinking - said goes "on and off" then now just on. Wouldn't be a surprise to find codes after much driving for a while - O2, Cat performance still not cleaned up if running ok at all yet? Need to know more and exact codes, T

Before you get too confused here, yes you have to clear the codes for the light to go out after repairing the problem. If it comes back on after that, then you still have a problem and need to get the codes read. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.
