Spark Plug Stuck Sign In

My husband just bought a 89 S15 GMC Jimmy (4.3L, 4x4). Neither one of us is mechanically saavy so forgive me for the stupid questions. Smile

The truck ran fine when we test drove it, but after we picked it up, drove it about a mile and shut it off it wouldn't start back up. It had sat for about a year without being run. The guy that towed us took a look at it and said at least two of the plugs weren't firing correctly, he suggested we replace the plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor cap and siphen out the "bad gas".

Well my husband is on his second plug and the socket wrench can't get in there to attach to the plug, like there's corrosion around it or something. Any suggestions on how to get this out?

Re: Spark Plug Stuck Sign In

Go to nearest autoparts store ask for a can of liquid wrench or blaster that would take care of any corroision on it including grease/grime build upWink just make sure you wash off the extra after replacing plug.

Re: Spark Plug Stuck Sign In

Do as Dave said: To add: These are taper seated plugs and can easily get so stuck in the head they break off, round off hex of plug or cheap plugs can give up the hex and leave you with just the threads in the hole - not fun at all!!

Get the best sockets and tools so that you get a straight shot at the plugs and not torque at an angle as that can mess up a new plug. Some can be had best thru the wheel well on these.

Simple spark plug replacement can domino into a real nightmare if things break off - take your time to prevent that,

Re: Spark Plug Stuck Sign In

To add to the other posts, after the penetrant has worked some, use a pointed pieceof stiff metal (awl dental pick)and scrape the outer edges of the pluf. This will give you room to get the socket on down in the plug well.
