Spark Plug Fouling Sign In

Son has a 2001 Integra.Has the 4cyl 5 speed.Engine has a turbo on it.Been running great but now in the last 2 months it has gone through 3 sets of plugs.They get gas soaked.Starts running rough and then wont start and we put a fresh set of plugs in and its good for a coupla months.He got bigger injectors put in with the turboyears ago.Dont smell gas but the plugs just start getting weak and after a week it wont start up.I checked the fuel regulator pulled the vacuum off and there is no gas on the hose.Any help would be appreciated

The first step would be to do a complete compression test.

Because you can't have combustion without compression and you can waste a whole lot of time and money looking at the wrong stuff if you don't test that first.

Just curious, but has the software in the computer been modified for the addition of a turbo?

Number one 125 number two 125 number three 118 number four 105 Replaced plugs and this thing is running like crap.Hesitating wants to die at the stop sign.Really rough.

Those numbers are not good but may not be the only problem. The motor is pretty tired and the least bit of overfueling will overwhelm the plugs. You really need a scan tool to analyze all the sensor data. You need to look at thinga like TPS, IAT, CTS, MAP/MAF and any stored trouble codes.

Son said he wants to take it to the tuner.They reprogrammed the computer before when they put the bigger injectors in.It ran great for a long time bout a year but just started fouling the plugs with gas.

Oversize injectors???????


You're just wasting everyone's time. The motor is worn out and beat to death and it's being drowned in fuel.

Putting turbos, cams, bigger injectors, etc will indeed give you more power but when you put them on an older engine that is worn out you will finish it fast. These parts giving you more power need a bottom end to be in great shape to take the added stress of creating more power than designed from the factory to make.

Bottom line is that on something older, if you want to build it up to create something faster you will need to overhaul the bottom end. My friend did a similar build on his Acura and before he tried bolting all that stuff on he rebuilt the bottom end with parts made to take the stress. Took it to the dragstrip and the motor ran great. Blew 2nd gear out of the old stock trans though. Then he built a trans for it. Snapped his axle at the starting line. The moral of the story is you can't expect old worn out parts to take more power than they were designed to take. If the entire car isn't upgraded together you will have issues.
