Shaking Mercury Sign In

I have a 2000 Mercury Sable 24 Valve engine that keeps shaking when the weather is very cold. When I start up the car during cold weather the car is fine until the RPMs go below 1000, at which point the car starts shaking a lot, the light becomes dim and at times the car dies. The only way the car warms up and doesn't die is if I give it some gas and apt the RPMs to 2000. I went to a mechanic and they run a test on the whole car and found nothing. Then I went to the dealer and their recommendation was to exchange two-house vacum which I did exchange. The situation is still the same and now to top it off, the engine light is on. I have a feeling that not all of the cyliners are running. Does anyone have any advice for this kind of problem? Any feedback would be appeciated.

Re: Shaking Mercury Sign In

I'd get the code reading and it may just pin down which cylinder to chase down the problem - spark or fuel or to be found still,

Could you please explain the quote in red? You cn go to a major parts house and they will read the codes for free hoping you will buy something on the spot. Get the EXACT code number and post it back here. Thanks.
