Sensor issue? Sign In

My 2001 Grand Cherokee Laredo will start but run only for a second. If I do manage to keep it running the speedo bounces all over and the over drive turns off. Ive used the key dance to get a code but just get the word DONE. I have been told it could be the alternator but would that make the speedo and overdrive go haywire? I would like to try this myself before taking it to a garage. Any ideas? It has the straight six with 116k on it.

Don't think the key dance works on that year. You really need a scan tool to see what codes are stored.

If you suspect the alternator has diode problems, disconnect the alternator connector and see if your problem goes away.
