Seized ( some play ) Taurus V6 3.0L Vulcan Sign In

I recently picked up a 96 Taurus with the 3.0L Vulcan engine in
it. 200$ with Unknown running status..

Got it home and..
- I put in a fresh battery, checked oil and tried to crank the engine over to
check for: spark, fuel and give it a listen.
* The solenoid engaged; but , starter didn't budge !
It only loaded the battery like a short through some winding's..

With the serpentine belt removed I...

- I tried to turn the crank with a breaker bar: ClockWise at first.
* It would not budge: the whole engine shifted in it's mounts.

- When I tried Counter-Clockwise, it was stuck at first then it came
free with more a little more effort ( torc <=30 lbs )
* However,,, the crank could only rotate about 10 degrees.. before it bound up again..
I say bound; because, it doesn't feel like stopping dead solid, rather it feels like " pinching tight and getting stuck ".

Questions:

- Does what I have described ring any bells with anyone ?
- Could a broken timing chain or pushrod cause this ?
- How should I proceed next to find the problem ?

Thank you very much !

The motor is wasted. What were you expecting for $200?
When you can't crank the engine with a breaker bar the party is over.

I never expected anything

BUT I do expect something more intelligent than "the party is over"

OK

first it's not Seized

It turns turns 10 degrees back forward and back STICKING (not Seizing )
clockwise then stuck
Counter then stuck

OK

I WANT TO KNOW What and where

I considering a couple of options

a buyer is ready to take it for parts recouping the 200

I am also putting together a list of easy to test and remove parts that can be sold
Parts-ing the sucker for more than the 200 easy

alternator
starter
power steering pump
Sensors
Electronic control modules
wheels and brand new tires
because here in Alaska having your studded and non studded mounted and balanced on their own rims READY to go
VERY ATTRACTIVE !

so chill and put some thought into your reply or don't reply !

You're living in fantasy land if you think you're going to patch that motor back together.

Speaking of lack of intelligence, your understanding of the inside of a engine is severely lacking if you think there is a simple solution ton those symptoms.

OK Hammer

please reply to this with a copy or a quote of where I said I EVER intended to patch this motor up !!

Never F'n did !

These are the questions I asked

Questions:

- Does what I have described ring any bells with anyone ?
- Could a broken timing chain or pushrod cause this ?
- How should I proceed next to find the problem ?

sounds to me like
A I'm trying to further my knowledge
and B. I would find the exact case of the problem before writing the motor off.

because DUDE I have plenty of extra time and dont mind spending some on this..

I gonna be wrenching on it anyway..

that girl has a running Taurus, same powerplant and year etc..

She's gonna buy the car from me..

but before that I want to pull these and put them up on ebay and craigslist etc.

Starter
Alternator ( with Pully & Regulator )
50$ tested somebody will buy

Power Steering Pump
Radiator
Powertrain Control module
Ignition Coil Pack
Mass Air Flow Sensor
Idle Air control valve
Fuel Injectors
Fuel Rail
Fuel Pressure Regulator
EGR Vacuum Solenoid
EGR F backpressure sensor

spare tire and jack

and if she dont buy it I'll pull off the brand new tires and rims and wait untill summer and hope th price of Iron goes up sp the junkyard down the road from me will pay me for it instead of making me pay the to take it..

do you drink alot of coffe ?

Ed..Ed.........EDDDDDD.. Calm down bro..........lmao

Damn dude,,,,,It's just a saying....."The fat lady sung"...."Turn the lights out"......"Stick a fork in it".
HT is just stating the obvious here......You gambled 2 bills on a car you "hoped" would run & lost. You took steps trying to get it to run and then found out it's FUBAR.

Your whole post "implies" you want to fix this sucker....All this other "learning" stuff is just hedging your bet after the fact. If you knew the motor was toast & just doing an autopsy on it, you would've said that in your original post....

Most folks don't spent the time tearing into lost causes, granted there are some. I can't say for the whole world but in my area it usually goes on around 2 or 3 in the morning due to self-induced artificial motivation....

Lock the crankshaft up? You can't be serious.

Pull the plugs and try the breaker bar again . Look for water out the plug holes. It's almost a sure bet one or more cylinders have water in them ,which would hydro-lock the motor

water RT.......???????

Doesn't sound like hydro-lock to me. It wouldn't lock both directions.

If that was an old lawn or snow blower you could probably free it up as my bet is is a mooring now - party over for that engine. You said ">>OK

first it's not Seized <<" Hey if it's not seized than why can't you turn it. Cyl walls are rusted no doubt. If you put some PB in spark plug holes if stuck from rusted cylinders and rock crank back and forth and get a full revolution it may start but will be junk still. compression would be junk and a real oil burner and not for long in a car before it quit.

Part it out before you waste time and money,

T
