Saturn L300 problem

Have a 2002 Saturn L300 3.0 6cyl engine with 26,000 miles on it.
It developed a whistle when if reached 40mph which increased with speed.
No faults were noted. Then when I hit passing gear the engine lost all power and the Sevice Engine Soon, Service, and Reduced Power lights came on and the engine would only turn 1300 rpm.
The maintenance shop here was able to clear all faults but on test drive Service Engine Soon light comes on.
The car seems to be running correctly other than generating the code.
Any ideas?
